James Arends

Mr.James Arends received his B.Comm. from the University of Alberta and his M.B.A./LL.B. from Dalhousie University. He was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1991 and has managed his own law firm since 1996. He has taught as a sessional lecturer at Concordia University College of Alberta in the areas of law, public policy, and leadership. James previously served as a board member of the Alberta SPCA for 13 years, six of those as its president. His current legal practice is primarily in the areas of criminal and child welfare law.
Karen McDonald

Karen McDonald, Dean, Graduate Studies and Program Development, Concordia University College of Alberta


Dr. Karen McDonald is the Dean of Graduate Studies and Program Development at Concordia University College of Alberta in Edmonton.  Prior to this, Karen served as Director of Public Health enahncing the institution's reach into the scope of professional academic programming. Her research focuses on supporting communities affected by large industrial development and the ethical applications of chemicals in our lives. Karen earned her PhD in chemical physics from the University of Alberta.
