Senior Vice-President, Global Public Affairs
John Larsen is Senior Vice-President with Global Public Affairs, and oversees the firm's strategic communications services across Canada and with international partners. Prior to joining Global he was the Owner of Principal of Corpen Group, a crisis communications specialty firm.
John began his PR career with the Canadian Forces in 1991, and has since held progressively senior and executive level communications positions with various levels of government, in the corporate sector and in consulting. He has served as a Senior Communications Advisor in the corporate sector, Vice-President with an international PR firm, regional Director of Communications for the federal government, and Manager of Executive Communications for the City of Calgary.
John is also an Associate Professor with the Mount Royal University Faculty of Communications, and is currently the head of the Canadian Forces Public Affairs Branch Primary Reserve. He holds a formal United Nations accreditation as an expert on major-event security communications, and has worked as a senior communications counselor for the 2002 G8 Summit, and the 2008 and 2010 Olympics.
John has a graduate degree in crisis communications, has published in numerous books and articles on the topic of crisis communications and hosted the “Corporate Reputations” segment of CBC radio Calgary.
John is the recipient of the 2012 International Association of Business Communications (IABC) ‘Master Communicator' Award, the highest professional honour in the public relations industry.
